June is an Assistant Professor in Psychology at Yale. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests focus on examining how positive emotional features relate to psychological disturbance. Her work examines both people at risk for, and diagnosed with, bipolar disorder as a prime candidate to study positive emotion disturbance, as well as healthy community samples focusing on understanding the normative function of positive emotion states.

Amanda is the lab manager at YPEP. She received her B.A. in psychology from UC Berkeley in 2009. Her interests focus on the relationship between mania and positive emotional reactivity, particularly in response to tactile communication. She is excited to gain research experience here in the lab and will be applying to clinical psychology graduate programs.
Sunny is a 1st-year graduate student in cliincal psychology. She is interested in understanding the pathophysiology of reward and emotion processing dysfunctions in mania and depression. Her current research investigates the neural basis, as well as physiological, behavioral and clinical correlates of these dysfunctions in patients with Bipolar Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder. Sunny received her B.A. from U.C. Santa Barbara, and is originally from Fremont, California.

Kirsten is a 3rd-year graduate student in clinical psychology. Her interests are in adolescent mood disorders, especially in understanding cognitive and emotion regulation mechanisms that differentiate adolescents at high risk for depression and bipolar disorder. She is also interested in emotion regulation differences in manic and depressive episodes within bipolar disorder. She received her B.A. from Stanford University and is originally from Phoenix, Arizona.
Yoona is a 4th-year graduate student in cognitive psychology. She is interested in interaction and integration of emotion and cognition, focusing on openness to unknown, tolerance for ambiguity, mental flexibility, and the role of mindfulness in them. She also explores the neural basis of such processes using fMRI. Yoona completed her undergraduate education at UCLA, and is originally from Seoul, Korea. She is also the proud mother of Nana (see lab mascot).

Vina is a senior in Pierson College at Yale, majoring in Psychology and International Studies. She is interested in the relationship between trauma and emotion regulation. She grew up in California and Arizona.

Lizz is a senior in Jonathan Edwards College at Yale, majoring in the behavioral neuroscience track of psychology. She is a certified FACS coder in the YPEP Lab and is interested in the many possible applications of facial coding.

Winnie is a junior in Trumbull College at Yale and a psychology major. She is a proud native of New Jersey. She is interested in clinical psychology and is excited to expand her interests to research through her experience in the YPEP lab! She is especially interested in emotion expression and regulation in children with psychological disorders.

Joe is a junior in Pierson College and a psychology major (neuroscience track). He is from the lightly populated state of Maine. In the context of psychology, he is interested in mental illness, especially mood disorders such as depression. He is also interested in neurology and poetry. At Yale, he plays Bassoon in both Berkeley College Orchestra and Jonathan Edwards College Philharmonic. He also gardens, cooks, reads, or plays video games.

Adam is a junior in Berkeley College at Yale, majoring in psychology. He is from Jericho, New York and has research experience in the biomedical field. Adam is a varsity fencer at Yale and devoted to working with children afflicted with cancer. He is looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of clinical and social psychology in YPEP.
Franziska is a sophomore psychology major in Pierson College. She is originally from Frankfurt, Germany and grew up in Switzerland. She is interested in many areas of psychology and looks forward to gaining research experience at the YPEP lab.

Faisal is a sophomore in Trumbull College at Yale, majoring in psychology and interested in medicine. He’s from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is intrigued by how conscious thoughts and goals influence how we emotionally respond to objects and events. He’s a certified FACS coder in the YPEP lab!

Ashley is a junior at the University of Connecticut, majoring in Cognitive Neuroscience and Research Psychology. She came to the YPEP lab to pursue interests in behavior and psychophysiology with a special interest in bipolar disorder. She is a member of Active minds and is a sexual assault crisis counselor.

Whitney is a junior in Ezra Stiles College at Yale, majoring in psychology. She is a native of Manhasset, New York and was a finalist in the International Science and Engineering Fair in 2006 and 2007. She is broadly interested in psychology from the social aspect, and is excited to expand these interests further by learning and gathering valuable research experience in the YPEP lab.

Jessica is a sophomore in Silliman College at Yale, originally from Long Island, New York. She is a recently declared psychology major and is looking forward to gaining research experience at the YPEP Lab! Outside of the lab, Jessica is a member of the Berkeley College Orchestra and tutors with Instrumental Connection. She is interested in psychology’s intersection with the law, and more broadly, mental illness research.

Molly is a sophomore Psychology major in Jonathan Edwards College. She is from Burlington, Vermont. She’s especially interested in the relationship between psychological disorders and criminal behavior. She plans to attend law school and to apply her psychology training in the field of criminal law. Molly’s other interests include philosophy and political science. In her spare time, she enjoys playing softball, camping, knitting, and chatting with interesting people over tea. She is a certified FACS coder in the YPEP Lab.

Rupee is excited to be part of the YPEP lab. Despite her tendency to chew data files, she is looking forward to attending lab social events and chasing balls and frisbees.

Nana has been the member of YPEP lab since she was a zygote. She is interested in dog biscuit addiction and evolution of cuteness.

Maria assisted in analyzing psychophysiology data in the YPEP lab as a research assistant.

Amelia is a graduate student in clinical psychology, with interests in emotion regulation and motivation in mood and anxiety disorders. During her tenure in the YPEP lab, she examined the specificity of emotion regulation strategies as well as anger regulation in bipolar disorder and unipolar depression.

Greg became a FACS certified coder in YPEP and completed a senior thesis in the YPEP lab examining the relationship between emotion regulation and athleticism.

Jenna Medaris was a summer research intern from Mount Holyoke College through the Yale SURF Program, where she investigated a project on positive emotion and inhibition entitled “Does feeling good release the emotional brake?”

Wes assisted as a research assistant with psychophysiology data analysis in the YPEP lab.

Tiffany was one of the first-ever YPEP research assistants, where she ran studies on emotion and rationality, became a certified FACS coder, and was the official lab artist.

Dan assisted as a research assistant in data entry and analysis using SPSS and gained exposure to FACS coding. He also spent much of his time singing in the a cappella group, the Spizzwinks.

Su hailed from Mount Holyoke College, spending the summer in the YPEP lab as a research assistant. She quickly became the resident expert in physiology analysis.
